How Is Mike Doing?

This will be the page that will have all the information on how I am doing. How much I have lost and pictures as well. Once I get enough sponsors, This page will be updated regularly. Thank you.

The pictures below are pictures taken on 5/23/08 before I start loosing the weight. My target date to start is June 1, 2008. So if you know anyone that you feel may spsonsor me, please let them know about it soon. Thank you all for your support.

Below are pictures of me along the way to losing 80 pounds. New ones will be posted at the end of every month.

UPDATED on June 30, 2008: It is the end of the first month. The official weight as of 5:30 pm on June 30, is 242 pounds. That makes a total of 23 pounds for the first month. This has been an extremely good month and I definitely did not expect this great of an outcome. The first couple weeks were extremely difficult to keep the momentum going and I fought through some aches and pains. Since then the workouts are getting better and I am enjoying the workouts. Today for my last exercise of the month, I went to the HOA pool and swam laps for over 2 hours (and the Lifeguards are my witness). That is why in the pictures for this month, they are a little blood shot. Lots of chlorine!

So with the end of the month here, it is time for everyone to make their first pledges so we can watch that number on Freddie’s St. Jude Tribute page grow. Remember, the number this month is 23 pounds. Thank you so much and I am still looking for more pledges, so help me get that word out as well.

One last note: I had an interview with a Fredericksburg newspaper called the FreeLance Star this past Friday. Hopefully they will run the story and this will give me more sponsors so I can reach that $100 a pound mark. As of now, we are at about $75 (some people have not made and official pledge but say that are doing it). Thank you all and thank you so much for your pledges. Without you, this would not be possible.

See you in a month.

UPDATED on August 3, 2008
It is the end of a second month. The official weight loss total for July is 11 pounds. We did have some hurtles to overcome in July. I hurt my leg on July 10 and that killed all the running that I enjoyed doing. I went to the ER at Mary Washington a couple times to be told that is was a muscle pull. Well I found out on Tuesday July 29th that I was walking around on a broken leg. It shows you the importance of an X-Ray. Yes, I did ask them to do one but they insisted there was not reason to. I think I will hall myself to La Plata next time. Yes, I am a little bitter about that.

August should be a challenging month. I will be at Topsail Island for two weeks this month and I will be enjoying myself. With a limit on exercise until my leg heals, if I can not get into the water enough, next month will be a cheap month for everyone. Let us stay optimistic.

If you have not paid for last month, the total is $34 for every $1 pledged.

Again, I can not thank you enough for your support and will hopefully have good news again next month.

Thank you.

UPDATED on October 18, 2008
It has been a couple months since I updated this page. My apologies for that. I have sent out the email for both August and September to all the sponsors so they can follow my progress.

In August I was able to lose 8 pounds. I am proud of these 8 pounds because I spend 2 weeks in August at Topsail Island with my family (Thank you Lenny). During this time at the beach, I did try to watch what I ate but I did enjoy drinking some beers and relaxing. The second week I lost most of the 8 pounds for the month. I can honestly say that I am now addicted to Ocean Kayaking and next year if we go back, I will definitely be using those Kayaks again.

For the month of September, I was able to lose 10 pounds which puts the weight at 213 pounds. The YMCA opened up in King George the second week in September and that gave me the ability to wake up at 5:00am and go swimming at the pool. I also try to spend some time on the weights as well. I am enjoying the Y and recommend it to people who life close by. The pool is worth it for me.

As for October so far, it is now October 18th and I have lost 0 pounds. This has been the hardest month so far. I have hit the "Plateau of Plateaus" this month. I believe a big reason is I hit the weights at least every other day (except for this week due to being sick) and I believe I am building muscle (which weighs more then fat) while still trimming the fat. I still have about 2 weeks left in October and I have some ideas as how to push myself for this month. The holidays are coming and I want to have a good workout in place for the holiday season.

Thank you again for all your support. I will try to keep this updated a little more regularly, but remember to check your email at the end of each month so that you know how much the pledge is. We are now 28 pounds away from reaching the goal of 185 pounds.

Until next month....

UPDATED on Nov 21, 2008
Well, I am late posting for October. It has been quite busy. For the month of October I lost 7 pounds. My weight on November 1, 2008 was 206 lbs. Since then I am have worked harder in November to try and beat the holidays before they come. Today was a big day for me because I swam for an hour this morning (50 laps in the pool) and the scale weighed me in at 199 lbs. I have reached a big milestone for me. Under 200 lbs. As of now I have 14 more pounds to go before I reach my goal weight. I am getting excited but know with the holidays this will probably be the hardest 14 pounds I will lose. I plan to keep working out everyday and sometimes twice a day. I also plan to eat like a pig on Thanksgiving and will have no regrets. I will also post some new pictures this week.

Thank you again for your support and everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving with your families.

UPDATED on Jan 4, 2009
Now that the holidays are over, the tempation to eat all those goodies should subside. My weight is now at 193 lbs (lost 1 over the weekend). I am about 8 lbs away from the finish line. I am getting excited to know that I will soon accomplish something that I knew was going to be very difficult. I am hoping to reach the 185 lb goal this month. I will be starting at least 1 class at the YMCA this week and also doing the other exercises I normally do.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Happy New Year to all of you. I will try to get some more pictures to post. Thank you and until next month OR I reach 185 lbs.
